How to Press DTF Transfers
Please note: Every heat press runs a little differently for temperature and pressure, so these are general starting points. If it’s your first order with us, we recommend grabbing a few extra designs to dial in the best time, temp, and pressure for your press. A household iron will not work for these transfers.
Important: Do not press the colored ribbon along your transfer roll—it will not come off the shirt.
Pre-press: Press the blank garment for 5 seconds before applying the transfer to remove wrinkles and moisture.
1st Press:
- 290–320°F (cotton / poly blends)
- 10–20 seconds
- Medium–high pressure
Place the image correctly and press—some testing may be needed for best results.
Cold peel: Let the transfer cool completely before peeling the film (rubbing the film with a cloth helps).
2nd Press (finish): Cover and press again:
- Teflon (for a shinier finish) or parchment (for a matte finish) or T-Seal (available on our site)
- 290–320°F for 10–20 seconds
- Medium pressure
Note: Use firm, even pressure. Avoid pressing over pockets, seams, buttons, zippers, etc.
Polyester/Blends: Reduce heat and time since these fabrics heat faster:
- 260–320°F, 5–15 seconds
You can press again if needed.
100% Polyester:
- 260–285°F, 10–15 seconds
This may take some tweaking—practice to find your ideal settings. If needed, press again, letting the garment cool between presses.
